I have learned recently that there are a couple of music faux pas one can make in the company of Detroit scenesters. First, never compliment or even mention the White Stripes, or you will be ridiculed or snubbed by everyone else who has moved past them, think they suck, saw them in their garage when before they made it big. The second is identical but refers to the metal scene and The Black Dahlia Murder. Everyone seems to have gone to high school with one or more of these guys and has some bad story or another about them. Consider yourself warned.
