In my quest to liberate myself from commercial TV and music, I have been downloading much stuff from Legal Torrents, which indexes all kinds of interesting open source (CC, GPL…) music, video projects, and games. Of particulart interest to electronic music lovers is the Kikapu netlabel archives (Torrent | Site), both volumes. Lots of beep-and-click as well as other avant-garde/interesting music. On the “TV” front, “Welcome to the Scene” (Torrent | Site) is a very cool series about movie pirates, made with a webcam, a desktop computer and some music, as fas as I can tell (I haven’t watched all 9 episodes of the season yet, so I can’t tell you much more than that). Legal Torrents has a RSS feed, too, so you can see what’s new in your reader.
Other open/diy/indy projects (that do not necessarily rely on bittorrent) I’ve been checking out are the Open Media Network,
OurMedia and Underground Film, all of which offer different products, some of which really suck, but usually with some interesting stuff thrown in.
Does anyone know of other places to find grassrootsy, open media?
Thanks for providing those links–the sites look great. Have you checked out Filmwatcher.com? It’s not quite as grassrootsy as those you mention, but still worth a look.
filmwatcher looks pretty cool. thanks.
