Social networking

These social networking sites have been around for awhile, but I have never really understood the appeal. Or rather, I never thought they worked. It seems a little weird to me to sign up for a site dedicated to networking, and then have to go back to it over and over to check on your networking. I know some (most) have forums and groups and whatnot, which can draw people back, but I am too lazy and disorganized and busy to keep going back. That said, I’ll bet I have actually signed up for most of the big ones, but I don’t know what’s happening on them. I actually found that the friend that had invited me to friendster had dis-friended me, probably due to a complete lack of participation on my site (I logged in in like april and found a message from her dated december asking me to post a pic).

Although I’m still not convinced of the effectiveness of these things, I have been enjoying some of the features of myspace, primarily the music feature. It’s a great place to find new music. Nine in Nails released their (his) new album there weeks before the actual release, and one of my faves, Mike Doughty, has a space there. Also an old friend with whom I have not spoken in ages contacted me through it, so I guess it does fulfill its function. I also feel weird emailing friends to invite them, but I will invite you here to be my friend if you like. My URL thing is http://www.myspace.com/14932872 as emarsh is already taken. Check it out.

Others:
Tribe: I think Tribe appeals to me most of all of them because I like the structure, but I just signed in for the first in like a year so there you go. But if you’re on tribe, I think this link will bring you to my profile.
Friendster: Here’s my profile. Nice of them to update my age with my recent bday.

I’m still not convinced about these things, but I’m willing to experiment and play. Come be my friend.
