Twitter links

While poor Kim is making the unnecessarily painful decision about whether to join twitter, I just clicked on three links from my twitter friends, two of which are about twitter, and all of which I will share with you.

  • From Steven Johnson (@stevenbjohnson), a NYTimes article about the Kindle for iPhone, in which Steve Jobs is quoted as saying that “people don’t read anymore.”
  • From Kris Colvin (@KrisColvin), a retweet from @msaleem: A link about twitter search that talks about why the twitter people refused a huge sum of money from Facebook.
  • From Chuck Tryon (@chutry), a link to his own article “Why you should be on twitter” where he deftly debunks some of the myths and criticisms surrounding the service, many of which “fall into some of the worst habits of technological determinism”.

Quick note/question: what is the netiquette for linking to tweeps on a blog? I chose here to link to twitter profiles and not blogs or other sites, but I included full names. Appropriate? What do you twitterers  think?

I think there’s no such thing as anonymity on the web anymore, nor should there be really. It’s a good buddhist lesson in putting your true face forward all the time and not apologizing for yourself.

I guess my question wasn’t necessarily about anonymity but effectiveness and etiquette. Like, if I link to you should I link to your twitter account (http://twitter.com/MollyL) or your blog (http://mollysays.blogspot.com)? Or both? And don’t a lot of Buddhist Zen Master types change their names?

I think that you got me all excited about being mentioned in your blog, but then it turned out you just mentioned a bunch of famous people.

Erik, in this context, it seems to make sense just to link to Twitter feeds. If people want to click through to my main blog, they can. Plus, you’ve linked the article which is the most important thing.
